Smartwatches would appear to be the best solution to keep you from constantly pulling your phone out of your pocket to check messages. But there’s a big problem with smartwatches, especially if you’re a woman. They’re large, they’re ugly (in my humble opinion) and they’re typically made with men in mind. And though fitness bands have begun to incorporate a more slender and sleek look, they are still announcing to the world, via a little bit of plasticized rubber on your wrist, “I’m counting all my steps!” Uh, decidedly NOT fashionable!
A few high-end brands are coming to the rescue with so-called “wearables” (as are a few indie wearable makers). Tory Burch, for instance, has made covers for the Fitbit and the Fitbit Flex that turn the devices from a dreadful-looking piece of rubber into a stylish gold piece that evokes ancient Greek patterns. Tory Burch also features a more affordable, though less flashy, silicone printed bracelet for the Fitbit that retails for only $38. It’s not as fancy as the gold bracelet, but it definitely improves on the Fitbit’s look.

The most affordable fitness tracker with the most variety of stylish add-ons is the Misfit Shine. The device itself is $100, but the accessories range in price and style. Misfit also features a forthcoming Swarovski Shine line, which takes the basic fitness tracker — shaped like a disc which can be inserted into an accessory to be worn like a watch or put into a pendant for a necklace — and covers it in glamorous jewels, or sleek watchbands. Starting at $169, it’s glamorous, and unlike some of the other models on the market, the cost includes the device itself. The Swarovski line gets bonus points for being solar powered and sustaining a charge for six months.
